Hutterite Counter

Alberta, circa 1900

Found in the New Elm Spring Hutterite Community near McGrath, Alberta, this wooden counter was used for counting various commercial transactions. Excellent turnings in birch suggestive of an earlier origin, possibly brought to the Colony from outside.
