French Crucifix
Ca 1870, France
Exquisite detail on this corpus found in a ditch in France by a Canadian soldier in WW II.
The wood is likely boxwood, resembling tiger maple with its figure and colour.
This figure is carved from a tree limb (bark is intact on edge) and it never had arms as the
bark is still visible at joint and no marks can be seen where arms may have been attached.
H: 28”; W: 6”; D: 6”.
